23/06/09 - Personal media attacks are no surprise for challenging MP expenses
It comes as no surprise that Michael Wills MP has rolled out his loyal lieutenants in defending his position on expenses.
They claim that despite all my efforts I have only exposed Michael Wills MP excessive £100 a day taxi bills. This is incorrect, firstly I have highlighted his £23,000 per year he claims on his rarely if ever used second home in Castle Eaton. Secondly, despite being the Minister for Democracy, it took a formal complaint to the elections returning officer before Michael Wills himself stopped breaking the rules on registering members of his family in this second home. He repeatedly told me I was wrong, but after the formal complaint he was forced to deregister his family. He remains under investigation.
Former Labour Candidate Mike Spry (9th June) and former Labour Councillor Derek Benfield (19th June) have written to the local newspaper with personal and negative attacks for daring to ask questions.
It is only right and proper that I as both a local resident and an elected Councillor continue to hold our MP to account and I will not be pushed away by personal attacks from Labour Party members, and as I have shown my robust challenges have brought about closer scrutiny of his expenses and an end to the breaking of electoral rules.
