Election Results and News for Covingham and Nythe Ward

The Conservative Group gained it's first seat in the ward back in May 2003 when Cllr Glenn Smith was elected stealing a seat from Labour.

Since then, Cllr Dale Heenan stole another seat in 2004 and in 2006, Cllr Phil Young became the newest addition of the team, turning the ward blue. Cllr Glenn Smith was re-elected overwhelmingly in 2007.

In addition in June 2004, the Conservatives took full control of Swindon Borough Council, now able to fully start the removal of 20 years of Labour's waste and mismanagement.

With an exceptionly high turnout for a local election of 40.83%, Cllr Glenn Smith was overwhelming re-elected in May 2007 taking 54.2% of the vote.

"I would like to thank personally everyone who voted for me. This clearly gives me another mandate that listening to residents and working hard all year around is what the residents of Coleview, Covingham and Nythe want."

Maureen Dilley - Labour, 643 votes 26.9%

Cynthia Desmond - UKIP, 323 votes 11.69%

David Pajak - Liberal Democrates, 199 votes 7.2%

Three years of hard work and effort within the ward paid on when Cllr Phil Young became the latest addition to the Conservative team, taking all three seats in the Covingham and Nythe ward Conservative.

Clearly a vindication of the Conservatives hard work and low Council Tax, the residents voted overwhelmingly for Phil, giving him a 400 vote majority.

Only 13 short months after Cllr Glenn Smith was elected with a fantastic majority, Dale Heenan stood as the new Conservative Candidate in the June 2004 local Borough elections.

Promising to work hand-in-hand with Cllr Glenn Smith to offer the residents of Coleview, Covingham and Nythe a quality representative voice of the Council he was elected.

Dale's win represented another Tory gain over Labour and is now elected to represent the ward until 2008.

Glenn Smith stood for the first time, offer the local residents a real alternative to Labour who had resided over the ward for far too long.

Offering a no nonsense approach, Glenn had a wonderful result which resulted in a Conservative gain from Labour. He is now elected to represent the Covingham and Nythe ward until 2007.
