Cllr Glenn Smith was first elected with a 557 majority in May 2003 and then again in May 2007 with 854 majority. Since then he has not stopped working hard for the residents of the ward.

In his first year of office, he successful stopped the Stratton St. Margaret Parish Council from putting their skateboard park on the Greenbridge site near Nythe residents, had the speed humps removed from Covingham Drive and helped countless residents with their issues.

Since then he has helped many people within the ward with local issues that are important to them.

In addition, Cllr Glenn Smith founded Nythe Residents Forum to discuss the issues that surrounded St Ives Court. Since this started meeting in the summer of 2005, considerable improvements to have been made to the building physically and managerially to help minimise the impact of the facility on the neighbourhood.

Following an increase in Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour in the ward, Cllr Glenn Smith with his fellow Councillors organised a public meeting in November 2006 at the Nythe Community Centre to listen to residents and then took up the task of trying to get the police to be more visible in the ward.

On a lighter note, he has recently been working with Swindon College and their students on the Garden Design course to come up with some ideas for how to improve the planting within Covingham Square.

Also in Covingham, he organised a public consultation meeting in November 2006 to discuss the speed humps and ways forward with them. In March 2007 the results with the consultants findings and suggestions where shown to the residents who agreed overwhelmingly they liked the proposals - in the background Cllr Glenn Smith is working hard to find resources to then implement these ideas which is currently scheduled to start in March 2008

Apart from this on the local level, Cllr Glenn Smith is not afraid of speaking up and being counted within the Council chamber. At most Full Council meetings he has spoken up and fought for local issues and others that face the entire Borough. Cllr Smith is always happy to shame Labour when they attempt to stop the Conservatives from turning Swindon around after 25 years of their waste and mismanagement.

He was also one of the founding members of the Budget Strategy Task Group, a cross party initiative that the new Conservative administration setup in May 2003. Even though Labour and Liberal Democrats hardly turned up and called it a waste of time, the group managed to save many millions from the 2004/2005 budget. Cllr Glenn Smith was commented as saying, "If only Labour had had the common sense to keep control of their budgets for the last 25 years, Swindon's residents would not be faced with our current failing services."

Personally, Cllr Glenn Smith lives with his wife Helen, his daughter Zara, and son Miles in Swindon. He moved to the area after graduating from a BSc (Hons) degree in Computing and Informatics at the University of Plymouth. Now working for Motorola in a management role within an engineering development group, he is able to bring common sense real-world expertise to the Council.

He has always believed in the strength of the family unit and knows the benefits of spending quality time with his family. He really enjoys his son and daughter as they are growing up.

On top of these other activities he is also active as a Director in an e-commerce solutions and consultancy business. Combined with his role within Motorola, he knows that balancing the books and delivering on time are crucial to any position be it in private industry or in local government.
