The Ward

Covingham, Coleview and Nythe is an electoral ward for Swindon Borough Council. The ward consists of approx 4000 homes and 7500 residents. It covers the entirety of Covingham and Nythe and the southern tip of Coleview (with the top area, and the majority being covered by the Stratton St. Margaret ward).

The ward was predominately built in the 1960s during another time when Swindon had rapid growth, very much like today. You will find allot of the residents that who moved in then who still live in the ward had moved down from London with allot of people who at that time left London for more room and a more relaxed live style.

Up until May 2003, when Cllr Glenn Smith was elected, the ward had been under solid Labour control for the last 15 years, however from Cllr Glenn Smith's hard work, Cllr Dale Heenan was elected in June 2004. Following two years of working together, the residents voted Cllr Phil Young as the third Councillor for the ward in May 2006. Now having three Conservative Councillors in the ward, achieving what we desire for the ward has been considerably easier. The three Councillors look forward to representing the ward in to the future.
