Cllr Dale Heenan will be delivering a letter and survey on EDA to all residents in Covingham and Nythe from the 4th June.

The Government and the Regional Assembly have identified Swindon as a "growth point" and say we should build 37,200 new homes by 2026. This is the biggest planned development of any town or city in the south west region and will see Swindon dwarf Oxford in size. The EDA is expected to accommodate one third of Swindon’s growth providing 12,000 homes and 5,000 jobs.

The guidance which Swindon Borough Council is trying to create is a way to proactively deal with the issues of Transport, Housing, Education and Leisure Facilities, and control how Planning Applications are dealt with.

The Council website at www.swindon.gov.uk/spd contains the Supplmentary Planning Document that is being consulted on, including the 3 background PDF's which outline the proposed layout.

Below are 2 images from the background PDF's which aim to provide an illustrative example of what will happen.

Both images clearly show the location of the new Hertiage Park stretching from the east of Covingham / A419 to the east. This distance is approximately 150m

The Red block on the first image shows the proposed location of a new District centre. This is broadly the location the Sainburys and Toy R Us but must bigger.

The bottom image gives a idea of the layout from an aerial view. While you can still see the Heritage Park, Oxford road is shown as green so not particularly helpful!
